I started my fitness journey in April 2020, as a pandemic hobby and to keep my active partner company.

Since then, I’ve become considerably stronger, more toned, and more energetic. Earlier this summer, I ran my first full marathon. I’ve also been taking swimming lessons and have recently learned how to cycle. And next year, I’m signing up for some big athletic goals.

I’m profoundly grateful for everything that fitness has given me. And yet, it hasn’t been without its downsides.

Let’s start with the positive changes.

  • I’m almost completely off alcohol. As in, I don’t ever crave it. A few drinks here and there, at most.
  • I’ve become way better at portion control. And that’s because my body is happy with smaller amounts of fatty food.
  • I’ve become more disciplined about how I eat. Meals at 12pm and 7:30pm, plenty of protein and vegetables, no random snacks, at least three hours between dinnertime and bedtime.
  • I no longer need to remind myself to drink water.
  • I can hike long and steep trails without feeling like my lungs are about to burst.
  • The abs. Duh.
