I respect that perspective, Gerard! And one of the reasons I originally stopped SEO writing was because it had started affecting my creative writing — I was thinking in terms of keywords instead of aesthetically pleasing language. I’d say, however, that SEO writing is a fairly solid option if you really need money while you’re working towards getting a better source of income. And with time, I’ve managed to gain better control of my creativity, so that I can compartmentalise — when doing SEO work, it’s all about the keywords; and when I’m writing my book, keywords be darned. Again, I know this may not work out for a lot of people, in which case they can try doing something unrelated to writing, as you suggested.
